The Pianazzo 2023 from Francesco Boschis is a strikingly pure and soulful expression of Dolcetto, hailing from one of Dogliani’s most esteemed crus in the heart of Piedmont. The Boschis family has been cultivating these slopes for generations, crafting wines that speak clearly of place and tradition. The Pianazzo vineyard sits at an altitude of roughly 480–520 meters, on steep, sunlit hillsides composed of calcareous marl and clay. This high elevation, combined with the natural diurnal temperature swings, ensures slow, even ripening—allowing Dolcetto to achieve aromatic complexity while maintaining its hallmark freshness and structure.

Technical Notes:
The 2023 vintage was defined by a warm, balanced growing season with cool nights that preserved acidity and lifted aromatics. Grapes are hand-harvested from estate vines averaging 40 years of age, then fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The wine rests on fine lees for several months before bottling, without oak influence, allowing the natural fruit and minerality of the terroir to shine through. The result is an unfiltered, unadorned Dolcetto that perfectly captures the voice of its hillside origins.

Our Tasting Note:
Med ruby purple, lighter edges.  Perfumed nose of red berries, florals, spice, licorice, savory, earthy and leather notes.  Med body, med/med+ acidity, medium grain supple tannins, med+ palate, long, persistent, perfumed finish. 13%

Tasting Notes:
In the glass, Pianazzo 2023 presents a deep ruby-purple hue and an inviting aromatic profile of black cherry, wild plum, and crushed violet, accented by notes of graphite, fennel, and sweet spice. On the palate, it’s both generous and taut—medium-bodied yet impressively structured, with supple tannins and a mineral edge that keeps the wine lively and precise. Juicy flavors of blackberry, red currant, and a hint of bitter almond carry through a long, savory finish. There’s a lovely interplay here between ripeness and restraint, power and poise.

Terroir & Style:
The Pianazzo cru is one of Dogliani’s highest and most revered sites, producing Dolcetto with uncommon depth and age-worthiness. Its calcareous soils contribute the wine’s distinct tension and minerality, while the altitude and southern exposure bring aromatic lift and purity of fruit. Francesco Boschis farms with a sustainable, low-intervention philosophy—eschewing chemical treatments and emphasizing biodiversity—to ensure the health of the vines and the authenticity of the wines.

Francesco Boschis ‘Pianazzo’ Dogliani 2023 is a benchmark example of the Dolcetto grape: honest, elegant, and deeply tied to its landscape. Equally at home on the dinner table or in the cellar for a few years of aging, it pairs beautifully with earthy pastas, roasted game, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses—a true ambassador of Piedmont’s understated excellence.
