NYR 2019 - 94 pts Vinous (Galloni)
The 2019 Barbaresco Vallegrande is broad and ample in the glass. Deeply pitched spice notes open first. Dark and mysterious in the glass, with tons of complexity, the Vallegrande is quite virile in feel, with all its elements impeccably balanced. It's another terrific wine from the Grasso family. The Vallegrande exudes Treiso character. That makes it the quintessential Ca' del Baio Barbaresco.

This is a fine set of new releases from Ca' del Baio, certainly a step up from last year's wines. The Barbarescos tend to see 20-25 days on the skins. After settling, the wines are moved into cask, usually around December. Aging is about 26 months, which is on the long side by today's standards. The wines are all terrific, but the Vallegrande is especially of note.
