Wine Critic Reviews
Gismondi on Wine (90): A blend of three high mountain Mendoza vineyards: Lunlunta at 920m; El Cepillo, Eugenio Bustos at 1,090m; and Gualtallary at 1,450m. The fruit is fermented with ambient yeast, followed by an extended maceration lasting 19-22 days before being barreled down for 8 months. This shows dark, brambly fruit coated with chocolate, dried violets, and spice. There's a good balance between fruit ripeness and freshness, with suave tannins and a juicy quality that carries the medium-long finish. Excellent value. (Geoffrey Moss MW).
Bacchus Magazine (90): Catena wines are the work of fourth-generation winemaker Laura Catena, supported by chief winemaker Alejandro Vigil. In this 2020 vintage, they offer us a Malbec at its peak, revealing remarkable balance and flawless composition where each element is meticulously dosed. The wine reveals a complex bouquet of plums, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries, in harmony with spicy notes, mocha, and vanilla. There is a beautiful balance, a solid structure, and invigorating freshness. The tannins, fine and elegant, as well as the wood, integrate perfectly into the composition, highlighting the finesse of the wine. It is an expressive Malbec, revealing a silky texture and a persistent and spicy finish. The whole stands out not only for its delicacy and aromatic purity but also for its excellent value for money.
