Wine Critic Reviews
Patricio Tapia - Descorchados (95): The Tabalí winery began planting in Río Hurtado (Limarí Valley) in 2011, some 1,600 meters up into the Andes. And so far, the malbec grown on those volcanic soils has adjusted the best to that altitude—and Roca Madre is the best proof of that adaptation. This 100% malbec has the depth of the best malbecs from across the Andes in the Uco Valley, the same violet and black cherry character and a structure similar to its cousins in Altamira and Gualtallary, with tannins that form a severe, austere, monastic skeleton. And when we add malbec’s inherent all-out fruitiness to all of this, we end up with this wine—one of the greatest reds you’re going to taste from this vintage in Chile.
