The 2023 Ottantadue is an absolute delight. Bold and punchy, with gorgeous forward fruit, the 2023 is a tasty Sangiovese to drink now and over the next few years. A dollop of stems (20%) works so well here. There is a feeling of immediacy, of total pleasure, that is so palpable. Fermentation in cement and aging in steel keeps the flavors bright. Our Tasting Note
Medium ruby red, slightly pale edges. A very pretty nose, pronounced and fresh with cherry, raspberry and strawberry, rose petals galore, subtle spices and an underlying minerality. The palate is elegant and fresh, medium bodied, with med/med+ acidity, and pronounced juicy and fresh flavors that cascade into a long, energetic and fresh finish.  Best ever of this wine at this age for me!

If Sangiovese took the form of red Burgundy or Pinot Noir, this wine would be the place to start.  Purity of varietal character and terroir transparency, this is a wine to not miss and we have very little in stock in what was a drought year and short in production.

• Soil: planted at 150-175 meters in limestone soils with chalk and sandy components

• Maturation: Stainless steel tank aging for 14 months to preserve the core sangiovese character
  

The Rogosky family continues to turn out some of the most riveting wines in all of Italy. Readers will note a new, extended-barrel version of the Carnasciale that is being released this year to compensate for that wine not being made at all in the challenging 2023 vintage. The 2021 Caberlot, which I tasted again, is just as stunning as it was last year, while the new 2022 is a promising youngster that is just starting to emerge from its shell.
