An excellent Chasse-Spleen that shows fine sweet spices and creamy yet vibrant plums and cassis. Lovely precision, with minerals and berries on the palate. Bright and refined, with dense, chalky tannins and a lengthy finish.

A new Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, freshly minted this year (from the 2018 vintage). I would put this right up there with the best vintages from Lilian Ladouys. It feels extremely silky, with such plump blackberry fruits that you could almost drink it straight away but there are tannins here, and the body of the wine closes down as it travels through the palate, suggesting it intends to get serious about ageing potential. Excellent quality overall, easy to recommend, although acidities are a touch higher than this in 2018 which may not please everyone. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend, 30% new oak. 3.84pH. The harvest took place between 25 September and 9 October. Recently enlarged to 80ha with the addition of vineyards from both Tour de Pez and Clauzet (both good quality estates).

The 2022 Chasse-Spleen presents a promising, quite burly bouquet with blackberry, bilberry and hints of marmalade unfolding in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry with grippy tannins. It feels a little stricter than it did in barrel, showing more austerity on the finish, but I appreciate the tension and ample length. Give this time to prove itself. - By Neal Martin on January 2025
Our Tasting Note: Deep ruby, vibrant edges. The pronounced nose shows ripe and primary cassis, bing cherry, and raspberry, dusty mocha chocolate notes, subtle licorice spice, with pencil shavings, graphite, and tobacco. The palate is youthful, and powerful med/med+ bodied, Finely structured with supple, but youthful med/med+ grain tannins, the palate shows the dark red fruits and spice notes with excellent length and freshness. Always a winner and such a good wine for the price. This is a classic, balanced, and intense vintage with great aging potential!
