It shows a savory side with some leather and tar mixed with crushed volcanic stone and campfire ember. The bouquet has a dark side for sure, with blackcurrant and bitter plum, but it also has a pronounced mineral side that is presented over a tight, medium-bodied mouthfeel with lasting freshness. It ferments in stainless steel and ages in 500-liter tonneaux.

In addition to these wines made in the Aeolian Archipelago, Tenuta di Castellaro has recently inaugurated its Massimo Lentsch winery in Randazzo on the north side of Etna. Positioned at 700 meters above sea level, the new facility was built in harmony with its volcanic surroundings. It counts 14 hectares of vines in the Contrade Feudo di Mezzo, Calderara Sottana and Piano Dario. The first batch of new wines should be ready to taste this year. Published: Apr 10, 2025, reviewed by Monica Larner

Vinification
The de-stemmed grapes are fermented by the yeasts naturally present on the grapes, with a long maceration of the wine with the skins. The strength of the wind, the bush-trained cultivation, the volcanic soil, the knowledge, and the harmony in the work of their vineyard team allows such an incredible wine from the Corinto grape to be made.

91 points Vinous Media
Drinking window: 2025 - 2029
The 2021 Corinto is earthy in character, with a mix of grilled herbs and camphor complicating crushed blackberries. It's silky-smooth, with ripe red and black fruits carried across a core of juicy acidity as hints of mocha form toward the close. This tapers off dry yet only gently tannic, leaving a resonance of licorice and dark chocolate.
