Roserock Zephirine Pinot Noir 2021 97pts
Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
$59.99 3+ bottles (code: 6saves5)
Our Zéphirine Pinot Noir is a barrel selection cuvée from the Roserock vineyard, and is a reference expression of the site. Zéphirine conveys purity and beauty, reflects winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin’s dedication to elegance and finesse, and will age meaningfully for years to come. The name refers to the Zéphirine Drouhin variety of climbing rose, which is known for its fragrance and beauty. The 2019 Zéphirine brings new ideas to mind. The color flashes in the glass like the gemstone red apatite, or maybe even the Triumph Ronaldo variety of tulip when in full bloom. The nose is alluring like blackberry bramble and bilberry and eventually folds into white pepper and stone. These deep, beautifully defined aromatics set the stage for a complex and layered explosion of flavors, full of deft balance and precision. Silky smooth, with a poised structure, this is an excellent selection for long-term aging.
97 points International Wine Report: "The RoseRock wines from Domain Drouhin have always been my favorites of the lineup, probably because I love the wines from the Eola-Amity hills. Displaying a shimmering light purple core with a bluish rim in the glass, this undoubtedly enchanting wine explodes with notes of fresh blueberries, red plum skin, toasted anise seed, milk chocolate, Earl Gray tea, whole pink peppercorn, and chalky minerality. Incredibly elegant and smooth on the palate, it’s a wine that takes hold of your attention and doesn’t let go. Highly recommended and editor’s choice. Drink: 2023-2033. (Mar 2023)"
Producer notes: "[$70 list] Our 2021 Roserock Zéphirine Pinot Noir gets right to the point: it is a fragrant, complex, exuberant expression of our vineyard, and its potential longevity is inspiring. On the nose, black currants, violet and lavender invite exploration. On the palate, juicy blue/black notes of wild berries and subtle earthiness wrap around a touch of spice. The tannins are firm yet elegant, providing a smooth mouthfeel and a long, satisfying finish. In short, the 2021 Zéphirine is special!"
