Besides Chetillons, Moncuit has 6 more hectares under vine in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger which is the same Chardonnay-focused village where Krug's 'Clos du Mesnil' is grown, and where Salon makes their stellar 100% Chardonnay Champagne only in top vintages. Les Grands Blancs is always a blend of Chardonnay from two villages: Mesnil and Oger. About eighty percent of the total blend is aged in old casks, and the remainder in stainless steel.
91 pts Robert Parker Wine Advocate (Kelley)
Disgorged in May 2019 with three grams per liter dosage, Moncuit's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Les Grands Blancs is the latest rendition of the cuvée that formerly simply bore the name Blanc de Blancs. Derived from the 2015 and 2014 vintages, it's showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of ripe lemons, honeycomb and hints of the warm bread to come with a little more age on cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy but nicely defined, with an open core that reflects its constituent vintages, a delicate mousse and a sapid, penetrating finish.
