Domaine Chavet Menetou Salon Blanc "A La Cote" 2022
Vineyard Notes100% Sauvignon Blanc grown on Kimmeridgian clay-limestoneWinemaking NotesShort pre-fermentation cold maceration followed by light (low pressure) pressing. Vinification regulated by temperature control with regular aeration. Aged on fine lees for 6 months with daily tasting and resuspension of the lees.Tasting NotesPale gold in color with a trace of green. Opens with a fresh nose with mineral “pebble” notes and lemony, finely herbaceous (fresh mint) accents. On the palate this wine is fresh and elegant on the attack. The lemony aromas discerned in the nose are confirmed and accentuated by a beautiful mineral freshness, leading to a clean, crisp finish. All the hallmarks of a great Sauvignon are present in this signature vintage.
As we all know, trends come and go, and Sancerre is very much ON trend now for about a solid 10+ years. The best wines from the region are excellent, but like all fads, many other copycats come after and want to jump on the trend and are not the same quality level but fetch prices much higher than the quality level. From the SAME region as Sancerre, just 1 village and 30 km west of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon makes Sauvignon Blanc on par with most Sancerre producers at 1/3 less of the price of your starting price for Sancerre, sometimes half or more than less than half the price of Sancerre.
Why You Should Drink Menetou-Salon from a Great Producer like Chavet
1) Less expensive alternative that is better than most of the lower priced (but still more expensive) Sancerre
2) The terroir is very similar to Sancerre except in all but the best single vineyards in Sancerre but those wines are all above $40
3) It is available as most Sancerre are harder to find and thus leading to even higher prices for those wines
