The 2024 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is vibrant in the glass, as a wave of crushed raspberries combines with sweet lavender, cedar box and hints of orange sorbet. It splashes across the palate with pure cherry juice, vibrant and succulent, with contrasting tart citrus inflections that pinch at the cheeks. The 2024 tapers off with tension, leaving the cheeks puckered and the mouth watering for more as nuances of tart cranberry linger.

The good news is that the 2024s at Arterberry Maresh are killer. The bad news is that the estate holdings have been split up among the Maresh family, leaving Jim Maresh with around 45% of his original land, which will affect production numbers. The old barn and tasting room are also no longer part of Arterberry Maresh. However, Maresh said, “There's never been a better time to buy grapes in Oregon.” The 2024 vintage reminds him of 2008. “I could have picked everything the first week of October, but the weather was great, so why not let the fruit hang? I ended up harvesting in the last week of October. I had perfect hangtime conditions — a high of 70°F with clear blue skies,” Maresh said. Alcohols are up by about one degree in 2024, but the wines benefit from that in terms of texture and perception of fruit ripeness. Maresh also cut his maceration times down slightly to lend the wines what he calls “tenderness.” These choices paid off. The Arterberry Maresh 2024s combine the vibrancy and radiance of the vintage with the house style that I have come to love. While the 2024 Tan Fruit Chardonnays remain in tank as Maresh is still deciding when to bottle them, the bottled 2024 Arterberry Maresh Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard is remarkable.
