More introverted and shy in comparison to Haut-Lieu, the 2024 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec wafts from the glass with aromas of grapefruit, confit citrus, lime and spring flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and phenolic, it's slightly austere with a tannic mid-palate that leads to a gently bitter finish. This refined yet structured wine needs some time in the cellar to chill out. Residual sugar: eight grams per liter. Drink: 2028-2038 (Oct 2025)"

"A lacy, seductive version, with impressive range to its notes of chamomile, heather, honey water and blanched almond, all atop a crunchy core of quince and nectarine. Its sneaky density builds, electrified by juicy acidity that uplifts the plumpness. The elegant finish is marked by smoke and a cool rush of alpine herbs. Stunning. Drink now through 2040. (11/30/24)" 92+ points Yohan Castaing (Wine Advocate)
The Legend for the Cellar
This ancient, walled vineyard was acquired in 1953. It has the estate’s shallowest, stoniest soils and produces wines of great depth and richness. Many consider the 6 ha Clos du Bourg to be Vouvray’s finest single site.
Winemaking: Harvest is by hand, and occurs over 2-3 successive passes (“tries”) through the vineyards. Intact bunches are pressed into a 50/50 mix of tanks and old demi-muids, where alcoholic fermentation proceeds naturally with indigenous yeasts. When their alcoholic fermentations conclude, the wines are racked into old barrels where they spend the winter before bottling in April. Malolactic fermentation is neither encouraged nor discouraged.
Soils/Vineyards: The Côte’s limestone-rich clay soils yield wines of intensity and great longevity
