Everyone that loves Brunello is now going after the Rosso wines for the value, but also the quality as the wines now resemble more what Brunello was like before global warming.
Rosso di Montalcino Tornesi comes to life in the south-west and south-east areas of Montalcino, from a stony soil mixed with marl particularly rich in skeleton.
For Comparison - 90 pts Vinous (FOR THE 2018, not this 2019)
Lively dark red. Initially reticent aromas of red berries, licorice, and musk, with livelier minty notes emerging with aeration. Straightforward, even steely in the middle, with good herbal lift to the rather saline red fruit and spice flavors. This is essentially a declassified Brunello offers a no frills Sangiovese that is pure and precise and is basically ready to drink now. - By Ian D'Agata on March 2020
Soil composition: Stony, marl and limestone, rich in skeleton in the two South East and South West areas
Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation without the addition of yeasts, in steel, intense initial pumping over with maximum temperature control at 30 degrees centigrade, medium-long maceration on the skins
Aging: In oak barrels from 7HI to 30 Hl
