Winery: The Basarin cru is another new single vineyard Barbaresco Cru site in the Paitin stable. Almost halfway between Neive and Treiso, with a higher altitude gives the wines from Basarin a particular note of spices with a hint of licorice, as well as great complexity and a considerable structure. The vines range in age from 25-60 years old planted in the calcareous clay and sandy marl soils are typical of the best vineyards of Barabresco. Fermented in stainless steel using the submerged cap (cappello sommerso) method. 40-45 day maceration. Aged for 20 months in Slavonian oak botti.
94 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Barbaresco Basarin is subdued and graceful on first nose, and the wine continues in a similar vein throughout. It opens readily to cassis, wild cherry and rose, followed by licorice and tar. The 2019 vintage is characterized by firm quality fruit that adds to lasting density and length. Production is 3,125 bottles, and the Paitin house style always prioritizes elegance and finesse.
