This seduces with its mix of silken textures and juicy acidity as a wave of ripe black fruit envelops the senses, all underscored by a gripping core of minerality. A wall of tannins builds through the finish, slightly contrasting residual notes of tart cherry and hints of bitter dark chocolate. The 2021 is a powerhouse and needs patience to find its footing.

This year I tasted through the bottled 2021s in addition to an extensive tasting of the 2023s from fiberglass tank. Frank Cornelissen has yet to decide which (if any) of the 2023s he will bottle, but the wines are beautiful. Before our tasting, Cornelissen had not tasted his 2023s since December 2024 and was not a fan of the vintage, yet he left our tasting with an entirely opposite outlook. The biggest problem in 2023 was a lack of production, so expect the 2023s to be quite hard to find. The wines are exciting—exotic and perfumed, with a vivid blood orange or tangerine note often appearing on the nose. As for the bottled 2021s, this is a strong vintage for Etna and Cornelissen. While the 2020s from last year were all about elegance, the 2021s convey power and structure, yet still in the energetic style of the house. We also looked back on a few wines from 2015, where Cornelissen lamented not adding sulfur at the time. This adaptation in his process has changed the game, as the wines are now stable enough to travel and will age much better. Construction on a new winery continues. Visitors can expect an entirely new experience here in the coming years. - Eric Guido May 2025

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0075/0338/0543/files/CornelissenMunjebelCS_c3de5dc0-33ae-4a80-8976-ce9da49dc8fb.jpg?v=1790952093
