El Corralón is derived from vines planted between 1973 and 2004, 630m above sea level on granite soils, exposed to the continental climate with rainfall of 465mm per year. Cold pre-maceration for 4 days. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and controlled temperature between 15 and 22 degrees. Selection table. Grapes with 35% stems and 65% de-stemmed. Maceration between 20 and 30 days depending on the plots and deposits. Gentle extraction by pumping over and delestage.
Winery
This wine is intense, expressive and full-bodied, a wonderful illustration of the predominately native Garnacha variety, with additional depth from the Syrah. The nose offers aromas of ripe red and black fruit, along with subtle notes of violet, toast and balsamic. The palate is powerful, juicy and well-balanced. A heavenly wine.

A perfumed nose of raspberries, cherries, orange peel, nutmeg, porcini and dried herbs. Some peppercorns, too. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. Transparent, juicy and vibrant.
My Tasting Note (on the 2018)
Medium ruby-red core, lighter ruby edges. The nose is filled with red fruits, cherry, berries, with notes of spice and an intriguing kind of garrigue-like note that might be from the cabernet and the Rhone varieties coming together. Notes of rock underly the fruit, spices and garrigue-like note. Good persistence and depth. The acidity is med/med+, as is the tannin and body, alcohol at 14% wears it well, feels like 12.5-13%. Good persistence and depth on the palate too. For under $20, a lot to like here.
