The palate is clear and offers initial glimpses of peach and Mirabelle jelly that open more and more, bordered by gorgeous zesty citrus, heightened and lengthened by that zestiness but with a beautifully earthy finish, as if dust were imbued with smoke, gently pulling that exuberance to earth. It is very long and beautifully expressive. The 20g/L of residual sweetness disappears. (Off-Dry) By Anne Krebiehl MW on January 2024

94 pts Wine Advocate

The 2021 Grand Cru Schoenenbourg is concentrated and rich on the generous nose that is quite baroque yet possibly not as precise or detailed as the 2022 or other 2021s from Deiss. On the palate, this is a generous, lush and refined, very rich and finely tannic Schoenenbourg with fine tannin bitters on the finish. This wine shows nothing of its true character at the moment, which somehow remains in the mist. The finish, though, is very long and saline. It's very difficult to be fair to this wine today. 13.5% stated alcohol including 20.5 grams of residual sugar. Natural cork. This site has been the birthplace of all the great wines of this town and is the reason for Riquewihr’s almost universal renown. It has a very specific topography, facing south, located at a valley entrance with a steep slope and his geology formed of Keuper marl which is a rough mixture of indescent and gypsum marls covered by laryers of Vosgian sandstone. The combination of a light, airy, friable topsoil on a clay based, fertile substratum with good water retention properties, accounts for the fact that the personality of the Schoenenbourg wines is dominated more by their native soil than by their variety. Because of the proximity to the Vosgian Fault, the micro-climate of Schoenenbourg is quite cold, late, suited to a slow, difficult maturing of grapes and the frequent development of Noble Rot.
