A deliciously ripe blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, with a small amount of Mourvèdre and Cinsault, this Côtes du Rhône wine has a wonderful core of dark, berry fruit supported by a framework of ripe tannin with cooling, grantic notes and a sleek, sophisticated texture. It is readily approachable from release.  

Usually 40-70% Grenache, 30-40% Syrah, 0-15% Cinsault, 0-10% Mourvèdre, 0-5% Carignan from, in order of amount, Cairanne (Grenache notably), Vinsobres (Syrah from the plateau), Rasteau (Grenache notably), Visan, from 2018 St Marcel en Ardèche (gives softness, more drinkability), destemmed, 3 week vinification, pumping overs, aged vat, 4-6 year old 228 and 600-litre oak casks 12-15 months, fined, filtered, several bottlings, up from 90,000 b early 2010s, 60,000 b mid-2000s, and 40,000 b 2003-04, “I like a little wild side to my Côtes du Rhône” J-L Chave, 150,000 b

Shimmering ruby color. Lively red and blue fruit and floral aromas are sharpened by a spicy suggestion of white pepper. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that become firmer on the back half. Supple, even tannins shape the finely etched, clinging finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind.
