Sourced from a 1.3-hectare vineyard in Brazzano with vines over 70 years old, the wine is aged for nine months in 250-liter barrique, adding subtle creaminess without overt wood influence. The Ponca soils of marl and sandstone in Collio contribute both structure and finesse. Only 2,659 bottles were produced, underscoring the wine's rarity and focus.

Will we lose this historic and legendary wine/vineyard?
In November 2025, a tragic landslide in the village adjacent to this vineyard made authorities close access to this vineyard and parts on the Borgo del Tiglio vineyard. There is a real chance that wine is never made from this vineyard again or it is dramatically altered by the authorities to prevent forther landslides that might cause the end of this vineyard's terroir as we know it. To date, the vines remain unpruned and untended. Authorities have proposed constructing a cement retaining wall and basin above the vineyard, along with gravel erosion channels cutting through 14 rows of ancient vines. All of these measures risk destroying this historic site. Nicola Manferrari is unsure whether he will ever produce his iconic Ronco della Chiesa wine again. Thank you to Monica Larner at the Wine Advocate for these details:LINK

Our Take: This is serious Friulano, coming from a tiny, steeply terraced old-vine vineyard planted in the classic Ponca soils of Collio. Bright golden-straw in color, the nose is pronounced and complex, with plenty of white peach, nectarine and pear, but this is really about everything underneath it: crushed stone, dried herbs, mint and a wonderful salty/mineral quality.
