In the less warm 2024, the blend was 40% Garnacha, 20% Cariñena, 20% Syrah (much higher in Syrah), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot (lower in the Bordeaux varieties), and the rest is a blend of Garnacha Blanca, Picapoll Blanc and Pedro Ximenez from 90 plots in nine villages from Priorat. The idea is to remove the French varieties in 2026. It fermented with part of full clusters and indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, oak and concrete, with 28 days of maceration, and matured in barriques and oak vats for eight months. It has a nose of ripe berry fruit, herbs and spices, with hints of honey and pollen. It develops notes of balsamic and dry hay with time in the glass. This is a little more international; it's the least Priorat of the portfolio. It has 14.1% alcohol, a pH of 3.52 and 5.12 grams of acidity. It's juicy and velvety, with very fine tannins and a sleek texture. 177,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2025.

There were less than 250 liters of rain in Gratallops between November 2022 and October 2023, even less than in any of the previous five years. And in the spring, that is key, they only received 43 liters in four months. So, for the first time ever, Álvaro Palacios decided it was necessary to water the vines. But getting water was not easy. So, the grapes picked in 2023 were small and with concentrated juice. All in all, the harvest dates were more or less normal, finishing with l'Ermita the 11th of October.

In 2024, nature gave them a break after two years of severe draught and provided a delicate year like they had not seen for years. In March and April, they got 80 liters of rain, still moderate but much better. They had to continue watering the vines. During the summer the nights were cool, something they had not seen since 2021, but still they started harvesting at the end of August, a long and slow harvest that lasted for two months. At the end of the harvest, they got abundant rains that have extended to 2025. The wines have finesse and elegance, freshness and balance, and they have more color, as the cooler nights produce more coloring matter in the wines.

The 2023s are pretty, ethereal and approachable. The 2024s are more serious, a more vinous vintage with more extract and weight, wines for the long haul, with the contained energy and harmony of the great vintages.

Published: May 01, 2025
