Varietials: 100% Tempranillo or Tinto Pais
Soils:  mix of sand, silt, marl, and limestone
Winemaking: Steel fermentation, 6 months of oak aging in American and French oak
Tasting Notes:  A deep, youthful ruby core with hints of lighter ruby flecks.  The nose rises easily from the glass with deep notes of blackberry and black raspberry, violets and lavender, anise spice notes mingle with coffee roasted beans, with a dollop of creaminess in the form of vanilla and toast from the oak (mostly American). Full-bodied, with ripe and polished tannins that gently give structure.  Youthful and plush, this is a luscious wine to open now or hold it for 5 years or so.There are wines values, and then there are insane wine values like this wine here.  It's hard to believe there is so much wine packed into this $20 bottle!  But, there is a lot to this wine beyond its delicious nature...see below how this winery is connected to the legend in Ribera del Duero, Vega Sicilia!

Bodegas Ismael Arroyo is one of the five founding wine estates of the Ribera del Duero DO and has some of the oldest Tempranillo vines in Ribera. Like so many old world properties, land cost is zero which for newer properties is a burden they carry in higher pricing - that does not exist here as the family has been around since the 1600s.  However, it was only in 1982 that the DO Ribera del Duero was made official and Ismael Arroyo was one of the driving forces behind it.  Today it is still family-owned and based in the village of Sotillo de la Ribera.

Valsotillo’s bush vines are 60-100-years-old. Soils are a typical mix of sand, silt, marl, and limestone.  Due to the high altitude of the region, a giant plateau, nights are very cool and days are very hot, creating high diurnal temperature swings that lengthens the growing season and preserves acidity in the ripe grapes.  Farming is organic and always has been.
