“Armujan” is a Barbera d'Alba Superiore, which means must age for at least 12 months before release of which at least 4 months must be in oak. It is almost always (from the best producers) made from older vines and is aged in a combination of large Slovenian and mostly used small French oak barrels (10% new); this is an age-worthy wine that we recommend laying down for 3-5 before consuming – patience will pay off.
It is remarkable how the Armujan differs from the regular Barbera DOC. The oak on the Armujan is evident, but you can tell, given the older vines that this wine has more concentration and more of everything. This can easily go head to head with other bigger name great Superiore like Cavallotto or Vajra and come out a winner just on the price alone, quality is pretty even. This wine can easily be aged 8-12 years and reward you with a wonderful, complex wine. In fact, Francesca had recounted how they opened a 24-year-old vintage of this wine this past year and it was excellent.
