The Domaine Nicolas Jay Own Rooted Pinot Noir 2023 hails from the renowned Willamette Valley, Oregon, a region celebrated for its ideal terroir for Pinot Noir cultivation. The vineyard's commitment to sustainable practices and meticulous attention to detail ensures that each bottle captures the essence of the land. This wine is characterized by its elegant structure, with notes of ripe cherry, earthy undertones, and a hint of spice, offering a true reflection of its origin.
Composition: 100% Pinot Noir. The vines are own-rooted and thrive in volcanic and sedimentary soils, contributing to the wine's complexity and depth.
Winemaking: Fermentation is conducted with native yeasts, followed by a gentle pressing to preserve the wine's delicate flavors.
Aging: The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a portion being new, for 12 months to enhance its subtle oak character and balance.
Wine Enthusiast (95): Making a wine exclusively from fruit grown on own-rooted vines is getting harder and harder, but I'm glad this one exists. Its boysenberry and chalkboard dust aromas make for a pretty introduction, followed by flavors of red cherries, orange zest and a touch of cedarwood. Bright acidity intersects with a rough, muscular tannins, suggesting enjoyment from 2025-2038.
