Wine Critic Reviews

Patricio Tapia - Descorchados (96): This is another classic in Karim Mussi’s portfolio, but also a classic of modern Argentine malbec, especially from Uco. It’s from century-old vineyards in La Consulta (along with 5% semillon from another very old vineyard nearby), fermented with whole, uncrushed grapes in sealed barrels, and the lack of oxygen slows down the process. The wine is then aged in the same barrels for two years. It’s an almost delicate malbec, with blue fruit and herbal tones, but also flowers. The texture is very smooth, the wine medium- to full-bodied, but the tannins are smooth. It tastes succulent yet fluid thanks to the acidity that seems to come from a rather cold year like 2021. A wine that needs at least five years in the bottle.
