Wine Critic Reviews

Wine Enthusiast (91): It's the Pinot Meunier, both in the Champagne blend and in the red addition, that makes this charming wine. It gives the wine its floral character, rich red fruits and subtle poise between freshness and a crisp texture that is comes from the low dosage. The wine has some bottle age and is ready to drink.

Gismondi on Wine (89): The Rosé blends 45% chardonnay, 40% meunier and 15% pinot noir from seven villages. Most of the wine is fermented in stainless with full MLF, though 10 percent is fermented in oak barrels and without MLF. For the rosé, they add 10 percent pinot meunier (infused after two days with skins) pus five percent Coteaux Champenois sourced from Les Gayères. The 40 percent reserve wines are stored in a perpetual reserve (mix of tanks and barrels) that dates back to 2000. My bottle spent a minimum of 18 months on the lees before being disgorged in January 2022 with a two g/L dosage. Welcoming and easy to like, with sweetly scented strawberry, cherry, and pithy tangerine around a ripe, round core, laced with chalk and finishing with a dusting of spice and saline. Drinking now, this friendly rosé is ready for a discerning crowd.

Gismondi on Wine (88): Sélèque began in 1965, when Henri Sélèque planted his first plots of vines with the help of his father-in-law, Jean Bagnost, president of the Pierry wine cooperative. Henri's son Richard moved the winery into the modern era, and since 2008 third gen Jean-Marc oversees the estate, based in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. Since Jean-Marc arrived, no herbicides have been used at the estate. The Rosé blends 45% chardonnay, 40% meunier and 15% pinot noir, from seven villages. The majority of the wine is fermented in stainless with full MLF, though 10 percent is fermented in oak barrels and without MLF. For the rosé, they add 10 percent pinot meunier (infused after two days with skins) as well as five percent Coteaux Champenois sourced from Les Gayères. My bottle spent a minimum of 18 months on the lees before being disgorged in January 2022 with 2 g/L dosage. Red apple, raspberry, red liquorice, florals is lit with lemon pith, and seasoned with light toast across a medium palate, sheened with oxidative notes. One that will work well with proteins.
