Craven Wines Pinot Gris 2024
Craven Wines Pinot Gris 2024
The Pinot Gris was grown in gravel, sand and 'Koffieflip' ('Coffee Stone') soil. All fruit sourced now comes only from vineyards whose farmers are dedicated to working their land organically.
Concrete tanks were used for fermentation and aging allowing the fruit flavors to shine. The juice was left to soak on the skins for seven days creating a beautiful orange wine. It has tremendous balance and intensity with bright acidity and solid tannins. The bright palate features flavors of strawberry, cherry, watermelon, light earthiness. herbal notes, and a nice stony, mineral finish.
Organic
The grapes were hand harvested and brought back to the Stellenbosch winery. The 2024 marks the third vintage using concrete ‘squares’ for fermentation and aging. The grapes were destemmed, and the juice was left to soak on the skins for seven days. It was then racked and the skins were pressed back to concrete where it aged for eight months. The wine received a light sheet filtration, but no fining, and it was bottled with just 45 ppm sulfur.
