Springvale is a six-hectare vineyard and part of a much larger property at Watervale in the Clare Valley. Grosset Springvale Riesling is produced entirely from Springvale Vineyard.

A truly unique viticultural site due to its geology, relative isolation and high altitude, it was purchased by Grosset in 1999 and planted in 2000. The thin topsoil is made up of red loam over limestone, and, atypical for this sub-region, the vines are deeply rooted in slate bedrock. There is a north-south fault line on the eastern border, limiting the vineyard’s expansion. This formation dates back many hundred million years. Vineyard rows are oriented to optimize sunshine.

Gentle lime and lemongrass aromatics, precede a palate that shows evidence of its quality and impeccable balance. It has pristine lemon, lime flavors that are powerful, intense and bright. This vintage, there’s more concentration and generosity of flavor: more weight without any loss of finesse. Destined to be acknowledged as a great vintage.

Coiled. That's what this 2022 Springvale Riesling is. It's like a compressed spring, waiting for release. The fruit is from the Springvale vineyard and shows just how GOOD Australian Riesling is. This is textural and tight, with springboards of fruit blossom, chalk, pith and zest queued up. This is a wine that needs some time to emerge from itself, but it promises to be a superstar: Grosset has managed to wedge in some restraint and some austerity into the folds of the voluminous Clare fruit. Yikes. Awesome.
