Feudo Pignatone Rosso Davanti Casa is created from a selection of Nerello Mascalese grapes from ancient vines grown organically on the contrada (an ancient estate usually aligning with a historic lava flow) of the same name in the municipality of Randazzo on the northern slope of Mount Etna at an altitude of approximately 700 meters. The grapes used for Feudo Pignatone Rosso Davanti Casa come from hundred-year-old vines. The bunches are meticulously selected in the vineyard, followed by the separate vinification of every single parcel so as to produce a wine reflecting the identity of the terroir and the contrada. A wine full of energy, with a rare elegance and finesse, and excellent scope for development over time. - Winery

My Tasting Note
Opened for 1 hour, not decanted.  A transparent, youthful ruby red.  The nose was fully in bloom, with primary red fruits of cherry and currants, a pretty floral note adds lift, a light note of smoke and tar, anise, and subtle spices, a real pleasure to just take in the aromas.  The palate hits with the same effect as the nose, a juxtaposition of intensity, density, and delicacy.  The wine seems as light as a feather, med+ at best in body, the flavors hover and rain down and expand on the palate.  The acidity is med/med+.  The tannin are med+, perfectly ripe and long, perfectly integrated.  The finish is long, fresh, and dense but still like the nose and palate, cool and elegant.

For the 2019 (not this 2020): 94+ pts Robert Parker Wine Advocate
This is the top wine in this set of exciting new (and organic) releases from winemaker Emiliano Falsini. His 2019 Etna Rosso Feudo Pignatone Davanti Casa is a pure expression of Nerello Mascalese that undergoes whole cluster fermentation with ambient yeasts and is aged in oak for a measured 12 months. All this helps to lock in the punchy, lifted quality of the fruit, and the whole cluster, with stems and skins, adds to the power and structural importance of the wine. Fruit comes from 100-year-old vines planted on a one-hectare site at 700 meters above sea level with volcanic soils. The advanced aged of the vines also contributes to the richness and depth of the wine's flavors. This pretty vintage reveals carefully fragrant tones with cassis, blue mountain flower and wild herb. There is spice, tarry smoke and a touch of white pepper too. Only 1,800 bottles were produced.
