The Monatine vineyard lies entirely within the village of Meursault. Alain’s vines are from the oldest part of the vineyard, but lie about 30 ft outside the boundary to be designated a village-level wine. He can therefore only market the wine as a regional Bourgogne, even though it has all the characteristics of a village Meursault. A top value that many sommeliers call, the “Baby Meursault”. From vines over 50 years of age and raised mostly in used french oak and some stainless steel on the lees.
Our Tasting Note: Medium straw yellow. A med+ nose of white orchard fruits, fresh white florals, saline, subtle notes of toast and hazelnuts, what a gorgeous nose on this little wine! The palate is medium bodied, with med/med+ acidity, fresh, layered and sleek on the palate with a persistent med+ intensity of the fruit, toast and hazelnuts. A long finish that echoes the minerality, saline, and florals delicately.
