Down the middle champagne does not get much better, a slightly less classic blend of mostly Pinot Meunier, it still blends the other 2 key grapes of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir plus reserve wines of 40% and a higher dosage to give it a rounder complex palate feel.

The new release of Aurélien Laherte’s “Ultradition” non-vintage Extra Brut is crafted from a blend of sixty percent pinot meunier, thirty percent chardonnay. The vins clairs were partially barrel-fermented and raised in both foudres and Burgundy casks, with part of the still wines also not going through malolactic fermentation. It includes forty percent reserve wines and was disgorged in January of 2024 and finished with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter. The wine delivers a beautiful bouquet of white peach, apple, lovely, delicate meunier floral tones, bread dough, chalky soil elements and incipient smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, snappy and full-bodied, with good depth at the core, fine soil undertow, elegant mousse and a long, precise and complex, well balanced finish. This is a very good bottle of Extra Brut. 2025-2045+. (Mar/Apr 2025)

Disgorged in June 2024 with a dosage of four grams per liter, Laherte’s latest NV Extra-Brut Ultradition (2021 base) is produced from equal parts estate-grown and purchased fruit, sourced from the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. Based on the 2021 vintage and incorporating 55% reserve wines from 2020 and 2019, this cuvée is composed of 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. It opens in the glass to reveal expressive aromas of pear, brioche and orange zest. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and vibrant, marrying finesse with persistence, laden with mouthwatering acidity and culminating in a long, resonant finish. With an annual production of 70,000 bottles, this is the estate’s largest, most important cuvée. Drinking Window 2024 - 2030
