The 2023 Camins del Priorat is the regional blend from eight villages and 90 different vineyards, produced with 45% Garnacha, 17% Cariñena, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 9% Syrah and 6% white grapes, Garnacha Blanca and Pedro Ximenez. It fermented in a mixture of stainless steel, concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and some full clusters with a maceration of 21 days and a short élevage in oak barrels and vats for four months. It has a bright ruby color, paler than the 2024 I tasted next to it, harmonious and elegant; the balsamic note has receded and the Mediterranean character more obvious. It's clean and expressive, polished and elegant. 195,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024. Drink Date: 2025 - 2030

There were less than 250 liters of rain in Gratallops between November 2022 and October 2023, even less than in any of the previous five years. And in the spring, that is key, they only received 43 liters in four months. So, for the first time ever, Álvaro Palacios decided it was necessary to water the vines. But getting water was not easy. So, the grapes picked in 2023 were small and with concentrated juice. All in all, the harvest dates were more or less normal, finishing with l'Ermita the 11th of October.

In 2024, nature gave them a break after two years of severe draught and provided a delicate year like they had not seen for years. In March and April, they got 80 liters of rain, still moderate but much better. They had to continue watering the vines. During the summer the nights were cool, something they had not seen since 2021, but still they started harvesting at the end of August, a long and slow harvest that lasted for two months. At the end of the harvest, they got abundant rains that have extended to 2025. The wines have finesse and elegance, freshness and balance, and they have more color, as the cooler nights produce more coloring matter in the wines.

The 2023s are pretty, ethereal and approachable. The 2024s are more serious, a more vinous vintage with more extract and weight, wines for the long haul, with the contained energy and harmony of the great vintages.
