Composition: 100% Zinfandel. Vine age and soil type: Mature vines, loamy soil.
Winemaking: Fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and varietal character.
Aging: Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels to enhance complexity and depth.
From the Winery:
The 2021 Sonoma Rossa comes from Bucher Vineyard at Storey Creek, at the north end of the vineyard on Westside Road. The 2-acre Zinfandel block was planted in the early 1970’s in a protected valley. The rows run east to west on a terraced hillside. .
In 2017, an opportunity to manage the beautiful Storey Creek vineyard adjacent to our estate property came when John meticulously rehabilitated the vineyard. He brought much needed attention and nutrients to this exceptional vineyard site and we’re fortunate to craft a small amount of Zinfandel under the Bucher label.
Tasting Notes
This stylish Zinfandel-based blend offers enticing, fragrant aromatics of ripe juicy raspberry merged with blackberry, spicy pepper, and notes of oak. The velvety entry showcases the fruit-forward flavors balanced with bright acidity. Vine-ripened black raspberry fused with traces of spice and vanillin oak expands across the palate as the wine’s refined essence lingers on the finish.
