This wine hails from the Luberon (almost in Provence). The entire AOP area nestles in the heart of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, a protected UNESCO site which resembles Colorado with its red rocks. Here, the vines grow in sandy-clay soil at an altitude of 350 meters. The surrounding mountains create a nice range of temperatures which helps concentrate the color in the grapes, while preserving the wine’s “bite” or acidity.
The wine is a blend of mostly Grenache and Syrah, and in our opinion, overdelivers for the price point. It has juicy black cherries with Asian spices notes and a hint of green notes/garrigue (quite attractive), medium/medium+ body and intensity and well-integrated tannins. Quite pleasing. Excellent value
2018 Wine Advocate
From an estate next to Chapoutier's Domaine Saint-Etienne, the 2018 Costières de Nimes la Ciboise is a dark, tank-aged blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Marselan. Black cherries and purple raspberries appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is juicy and supple, leading into a mouthwatering finish.
Producer tasting notes: "Appearance: garnet red color Nose: complex and fine with notes of black fruit (blackberry / blackcurrant) Palate: fruity with lovely notes of liquorice. Silky tannins. Creating a precise and elegant wine with lovely freshness." - M. Chapoutier
Appearance: bright, deep, dark garnet.
Nose: Intense with notes of ripe fruit (blackcurrants/raspberries).
Palate: delicious and full. The ripe fruit and soft spices come through again on the palate. Pronounced yet soft, delicate tannins.
