If there is one producer I wished we had more of, WAY more in fact, it would be the wines from Romain Guiberteau in Saumur from the Loire valley. Every year we get a handful of red and white bottles that are sold before they ever arrive. NOW, we find that he is making a rose wine and are all sorts of excited to get our hands on these!
If you have been on the fence about which rose wine to get this year, this is the one to jump on!
This rose is fresh, with a medium+ nose of fresh red berries and red fruits, cool mineral tones, and savory herbal notes like fresh basil and oregano. The palate is medium bodied, with med/med+ acidity and med+ flavor intensity. Finishes fresh and complex, clean, elegant and sneakily long.
Cabernet Franc roses from the Loire also seem to be high on most people's wish lists this year too. The Boudignon below has been a big hit (we are also US low on that one)! It killed us this was going to arrive late for our tasting event last weekend, but who knows, I might not be writing this as we could have sold it all.
Vigneron Romain Guiberteau sources the fruit for this rose from some of the best vineyards of cabernet franc in the Loire in the Saumur appellation. Romain worked with Nady Foucault of Clos Rougeard, the only other Domaine in the Loire that can lay claim to being the most legendary of producers. Romain farms thoughtfully and organically, making deeply characterful and complex wines that maintain elegance and freshness.
