Satyricon translates from latin as a satirical novel.  Considering this is not officially a DOCG Taurasi, drinks really well out of the gate, and inspires revelry at the table with great food and company, what better name for the wine. 2021 was an exceptional but small vintage in Taurasi, making this one of the best wines of the vintage to be released thus far.

My Tasting Note: Deep ruby red core, vibrant red edges, almost opaque. The nose rises from the glass easily with primary and fresh red, dark red and black fruits like cherry, elderberry, and raspberry, (this added currants on day 2 and settled in nicely) that with air give way to subtle spice and savory, subtle chalk notes (mineral component), and more pronounced violets and lavender. The palate is med+ to full bodied, it wears its 15% abv really well, not a hair out of place. Excellent acidity buttresses all that fruit and body effortlessly. The tannins are med+ and structured, leaving an elegant chalky note resonating through the long, mouthwatering finish highlighting the fruit, subtle spices and pleasantly sweet purple florals.

92 VINOUS (2020) No score for the 2021 yet, but this note for the 2020 in the last vintage encapsulates well my experience with the 2021:
The 2020 Satyricon bursts from the glass with a spicy mix of dried roses, black currants, camphor and ground ginger. It’s racy and sleek in style, with gobs of saline mineral tones up front that give way to tart blackberry, all contrasted by a twang of sour citrus. Dark inner florals resonate throughout as the 2020 finishes with a staining of salted licorice and edgy tannins, coming across as youthfully structured and energetic. The Satyricon will be best paired with a meal today, yet will ultimately benefit from two to three years of cellaring.
