The 2021 Grand Cru Altenberg is very intense and complex yet also aromatic on the deep, tropical, delicately floral and seriously saline nose that also reveals bitter lemon and orange aromas. Generous yet elegant and fresh on the palate, this is a concentrated yet lean and elegant, savory and stimulating Altenbourg with fine tannins, remarkable freshness and a lemon bitter finish. It has 12.5% stated alcohol and 60 or so grams of residual sugar that we don't taste. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. Stephan Reinhardt

The 2021 Altenberg de Bergheim Grand Cru, a field blend of a wide range of Alsace varieties, opens with vivid richness and ripeness of clear peach jelly with alluring overtones of lemon balm. That same aromatic juiciness defines the palate, filling the mouth with the brightest, juiciest, freshest peach, almost with an edge of passion fruit. This interplay of the most succulent, ripest fruit and gorgeously bright, fresh aromatics makes this most alluring and very seductive. The fruit is amplified by 60g/L of residual sweetness, making this a heightened pleasure with all those fresh, zesty aromas. The 2021 is a true pleasure bomb.
