Our tasting note: From the cork pull this was an aromatically generous and persistent wine, yet retained elegance with driving energy and persistence to the multitude of orchard, spice, saline and florals on the nose and palate. Long, cool and persistent on the finish too. 13.2% abv

Perfumey aromatics and rounded mid palate give the '21 a unique power and generosity despite restraint and precision on the finish. Black Walnut provides the base with smaller amounts of Sojeau and Witness Tree Vineyards. Includes a single barrel from the young vines at the top of Witness Tree Vineyard, making this blend from three different sites, all planted in volcanic soils. The 5 barrels of Black Walnut Vineyard give this wine its base, and with the addition of two barrels of Sojeau make it just under 200 total cases produced. Fermented and aged on lees in 228 liter barrels before finishing in stainless steel from mid September until bottling on January 23rd. Perfumey orchard fruits and white flowers dominate the nose before showing candied citrus notes. Dense core and rounded attack integrate the rather lively acid profile. -Winery

Ambient yeasts start a primary fermentation that lasts between 30 to 50 days, and malolactic within several months. Stirring of lees was limited to primary fermentation and the beginning of ML, but did not occur for the majority of the barrel aging. Barrel aging is 12-14 months in used French oak.
